Dr. Manison had the DBAM logo created to convey a lot of necessary information. Let’s take a look at some of the messages in this logo.
To get into the right ‘mood’ for our logo, please gently close your eyes and picture yourself in a gym and envision the ‘person’ in the gym who plays the part of the ‘meathead.’ You know, the one who thinks he/she knows it all yet doesn’t look all that great and certainly isn’t that healthy. The one who seems to have all the answers yet has never been educated in regards to anything in the fitness field. We all know one or have seen one. Yes, that person! Now you can come out of your trance and read on!
1. The donut on the right hand barbell side (reading left) and the steak on the left (reading right) address the nutritional aspects of fitness. Many talk about how to eat, what they eat, the cool protein they take, the best supplements, etc… However, usually, these people are hardly in good shape internally or externally. Many times they have muscle, but they are soft looking. Many times people have micronutrient deficiencies/imbalances and don’t even know it. Only a person trained in this field should be adding input. Opinions are nice but we’ll stick to the facts. We want to help people, not throw out a bunch of junk that has no validation.
We’re not trying to be too critical (okay, just a bit) but we are saying that proper nutrition is VITAL for performance and recovery. People should not be making recommendations to others if they lack the knowledge in this area. Sadly, most people have no idea what they are talking about…but they’ll try to make you think they do. In essence, they are meatheads!
2. Please look at the positions of the arms during the squat. Notice how the left arm is bent and the right one is straight. Does this look right to you? We certainly hope not! Ever notice how some in the gym talk a big talk about form, mobility, stability, etc…yet when they train, it’s more like a train-wreck vs. something that you’d want to copy. Yeah, you know what I mean. These people are meatheads! We want to be sure you know what you’re doing when you are exercising, whether you’re weight lifting, playing soccer, skiing, or whatever else you’re doing for an active lifestyle.
3. The necessary (or unnecessary) strain while working out. The sweat. Yeah, the people who hold their breath and lift as much weight as they can. Has anyone ever told these ladies and gents what happens to the blood pressure when you strain really hard while working out? Well, someone should. We need to train within our limits but we’ll assume some people don’t know how to establish those. Again, meatheads! We need to know about physiology and how our body works. We’re gonna help you with this!
4. Since we’re on the topic, how about them externally rotated feet? Hey, if I cannot internally rotate and I’m completely imbalanced, the only way I can go is to externally rotate. What if I were to say that most back problems are caused by ankle and/or hip issues? Well, they are! The back doesn’t just break down on its own. Yeah, let’s just compensate by sticking our butts out as far as we can when we squat. But hey, if you want a deep squat, you have to do what you can.
Better said, it’s like doing whatever you can to get a deep squat. Do we need to have good form with a squat? Yes. Does our body need internal rotation? Yes. These people with the mobility issues…meatheads! We’re here to show you the right way to do things with a multitude of topics.
5. Ahhhhh. The logo words on the bottom with the ‘Don’t’ underlined in red. Hopefully, everyone sees this and heeds the warning: Don’t Be a Meathead! Is this all about proving who is right or wrong? NO! It’s about getting the proper information across to help people exercise correctly, reduce injury, and recovery properly. We can either do what is best for our bodies or we can be…you got it…meatheads! Our team of specialists is here to help you, your kids, and everyone you care about succeed with their fitness goals. We want you healthy and active.
So, let’s use this logo as inspiration and a reminder to consider proper nutrition for a healthy life, good form no matter what we are doing in the gym or with any activity for that matter, exercise without creating too much strain to the body, learn how to be and stay healthy on many fronts, and appreciate the importance of proper mobility and stability.
