
Allen Manison

Dr. Manison owns and operates Columbia Advanced Chiropractic, LLC in Columbia, Maryland (Howard County). He has received certifications in Chiropractic Adjunctive Physiotherapy from New York Chiropractic College and Advanced Chiropractic Adjunctive Physiotherapy from the National University of Health Sciences. Dr. Manison is also certified (and re-certified) in Cox flexion/distraction from the National University of Health Sciences.
Dr. Manison has been published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine, one of only two medically indexed journals. His case study was on the topic of Cox Flexion/Distraction and its success with cervical disc herniations. Please click HERE to read the abstract of the study. He holds licenses to practice chiropractic in Maryland and Pennsylvania. He is a member of the Maryland Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Manison is a Diplomate of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians® (DACBSP®). This is the highest level of sports training a chiropractor can receive in the field, and he is one of only 500 in the country. Before pursuing the Diplomate curriculum, Dr. Manison had to first become a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® (CCSP®). Dr. Manison has also undergone extensive training and has earned the designation of Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (CCEP). He was certified in Applied Kinesiology from the International College of Applied Kinesiology in 1998.
Dr. Manison has earned certification as a Golf Rehabilitation Specialist from the University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic. This was an 84-hour program. He has continued his golf education and is now a Titleist Performance Institute TPI Medical Level 3 Certified Professional. He was one of the wellness team doctors for the USGA U.S. Open for two years (2013 and 2014). Dr. Manison is also a Level 2-certified Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA) practitioner and a Level 2-certified Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Specialist.
As one of only a handful of professionals in Maryland, Dr. Manison has earned the title of Low-Speed Rear-Impact Crash Reconstruction Specialist from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. He has also earned a certificate for advanced training in diagnosis, treatment, and management of motor vehicular cervical acceleration/deceleration (CAD) trauma. Dr. Manison is one of only two people in the state of Maryland who have attended actual crash studies. The information obtained from this cannot be learned in any other fashion.
Dr. Manison has achieved Advanced Certification in the Graston Instrument Assisted Soft-Tissue Mobilization (GISTM) technique (or Graston Technique). This is a highly advanced and efficient technique developed to treat soft-tissue pathology. Dr. Manison is also a full-body licensed provider of Active Release Techniques (ART). This technique is highly effective for treating a wide range of soft-tissue and nerve entrapment issues. Dr. Manison was the first licensed Active Release practitioner in the Columbia/Ellicott City/Southern Baltimore/Howard County, Maryland region. He has the most experience with this technique in the area. The technique is sought after for triathlon participants, volleyball players, Cross-fitters, marathon runners, and athletes of all sports. Dr. Manison is proud to have been an ART Ironman Provider up until 2018.
Dr. Manison is also a Certified Kinesio® Taping Practitioner (CKTP®). The Kinesio® Taping Method is one of the most sophisticated taping techniques in the world. It allows for facilitation, inhibition, and functional corrections of the musculoskeletal system. Dr. Manison is also a ‘Rock Doc’. This means he is a certified FMT level 1 and 2 (Fascial Movement Taping) practitioner from RockTape. This advanced form of taping is unique in the industry. It works with the principles of Anatomy Trains® to help patients restore function and improve sports performance. Dr. Mansion wrote a chapter for the 3rd edition of the RockTape manual.
Dr. Manison is certified in Dry Needling and has taught Sports Dry Needling, issuing CEUs through the State of Maryland. This powerful soft tissue technique adds another treatment approach for Dr. Manison to utilize. Dr. Manison also holds the certification as a CSCS® (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist®). This certification requires that those who pass have a high level of knowledge in the assessment and design of exercise and nutrition programs for athletes at all levels.
Dr. Manison is also a Performance Enhancement Specialist (PES) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES). These certifications are issued by the National Academy of Sports Medicine® (NASM®). These are specialization programs that can only be taken by candidates with at least a bachelor’s degree in a sports-related field. The material includes an assessment of injury/imbalance patterns, tested through functional activities, and ways to correct these issues. It also covers in-depth material about exercise science, nutrition, psychology, conditioning, and sports performance enhancement for athletes of all levels.
Dr. Manison is a cum laude graduate of Life University (a chiropractic professional graduate school) in Marietta, Georgia. He was one of only two students in his graduating class of 242 to receive the Clinical Excellence Award for performing more than 500 adjustments during his clinical internship. He was also selected as one of 12 students out of 4,000 to serve as a Senior Assistant, a position that included an academic scholarship. This job enabled him to supervise and educate students in a clinical setting on the proper application of chiropractic techniques and accurate diagnosis. He also assisted the clinic doctors with day-to-day operations. Dr. Manison was also active in several technique clubs, held a supervisory position, and instructed in the Motion Palpation club.
Prior to his doctoral education at Life University, Dr. Manison attended the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Society with a minor in Spanish and a concentration in pre-medicine.
Dr. Manison received his master’s (with a 3.98 GPA) from Jefferson University in 2022 in the field of Cannabis Science, Medicine, and Business.
Dr. Manison was the official chiropractor for the Baltimore Marathon for 12 years. He was also the medical director for Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) for this time period. He also has experience as the East Coast sports chiropractor for the NVL/CSE Pro Beach Volleyball circuit. He is a U.S. Soccer Level C-certified coach and has served as an assistant coach on two high-level travel teams.
Dr. Manison currently serves as the Medical Director for StemWave, a leading company specializing in extracorporeal shockwave therapy devices. He works with a great team of clinical advisors who help doctors better understand the technology and how to successfully implement it. Dr. Manison writes diagnostic CEU classes for the company along with position papers, helps train universities and professional sports teams, and aids the company with other technology implementation needs.
Dr. Manison has extensive experience working with Olympic lifters, Powerlifters, Strongman competitors, NFLers, and CrossFitters. He has worked at the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Challenge (MAAC) and other CrossFit events and has organized staff for them. He has worked with athletes in most disciplines and at all levels. Dr. Manison’s practice includes many young athletes.
Currently, he is working towards his second masters degree. This degree program is in Sports and Health Sciences at APUS/AMU. He is more than halfway through the program and very much enjoying it!
In his free time (which isn’t that much these days), Dr. Manison enjoys weightlifting, skiing, biking, jogging, reading, studying, and educating. He enjoys spending time with his wife and daughters, playing with his two doggies, cooking, and participating in any activity involving the outdoors, sports, or nutrition. His wife is currently an Army Colonel and professor at USUHS, and she sees patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Dr. Manison started DBAM out of his love for all things activity-related and his desire to help others improve their health. The main focus of DBAM will be to help youth athletes maintain and improve their health and performance.
